Ralph "Bud" Leavitt was born in Old Town in 1917. He began writing for the "Bangor Daily Commercial" in 1934. He served during World War II as a civilian employee for the Army Air Corps. In 1946, he joined the "Bangor Daily News" as a general sportswriter. He began his well known column in 1948 that continued until Nov. 30, 1994.
